FAQ
Common questions about ComfiConf, and its known limitations.
Can ComfiConf edit any plugin?
No. It edits plugins that support ComfiConf: their authors describe the settings with the ComfiConf developer API. Plugins without that support are never touched, and their files stay as they are. See Supported plugins.
Can ComfiConf read my files or run commands?
No. The bridge cannot browse, read or write files, run console commands, or execute code. It only calls the plugins that registered settings with it, and each plugin decides what it accepts, how it saves and how it activates a change.
Do I need to open a port, or give ComfiConf FTP or RCON access?
No. The bridge makes one outbound, encrypted connection to app.comficonf.com. Nothing connects to your server.
Does the bridge slow down my server?
All network work runs off the server's main thread. Plugins decide where their own callbacks run.
Can I still edit the YAML files by hand?
Yes. The plugin owns its files, and hand edits keep working. If you change a file while someone has the editor open, ComfiConf notices: the editor shows Changed elsewhere, and applying older values is refused instead of overwriting your edit.
Does ComfiConf keep comments and other keys in my files?
ComfiConf only sends the changed values to the plugin; the plugin writes its own file. Plugins built on the ComfiConf API's helpers keep the keys the editor does not show, and the comments of keys in sections. Comments of list items and the exact formatting are not guaranteed to survive.
Is there a backup before a change is saved?
Plugins that use the ComfiConf API's file helper write a backup and save atomically. Whether a plugin does is up to the plugin.
Can several people manage one server?
Not yet. One account owns a server, and there are no shared roles or collaborators. To move a server to another account, remove it and pair it again from the other account.
I forgot my password.
There is no password reset by email yet, so the account cannot be recovered by email. Keep your password in a password manager.
Does ComfiConf work on Folia, Spigot or Bukkit?
No. The bridge runs on Paper 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 and on Purpur builds based on them. Folia is not supported yet.
What happens to my server if ComfiConf is down?
Nothing changes on the server. Plugins keep running with the settings they have, the bridge retries the connection on its own, and you can still edit the files by hand.
Known limitations
- One owner per server. There are no shared roles or collaborators yet.
- No email verification or password reset by email. Accounts use an email address and a password.
- Folia is not supported.
- Material icons are not shown. The material picker uses names and categories.
- Secrets inside lists. Sensitive settings are limited to single text settings outside lists.
- Formatting of YAML files. Comments of list items and the exact formatting of a file are not guaranteed to survive a change made through ComfiConf.
- Some text rules are checked late. A few advanced text patterns are checked when you review, not while you type.
- Apply outcomes are remembered for 15 minutes. After a bridge restart or a longer outage, an apply whose answer was lost may be reported as This change may already have been applied; reload to see the current values.
